They are not in love.

They reach for each other, seeking familiarity, holding onto it. They mouths move against each other, hearts pounding against each other’s chest.

They are not.

Eames wraps a possessive arm around Arthur’s waist when they sleep in the same bed. He does this in his sleep.

They are attached, perhaps. Neither of them are capable of anything more, anything better. They both know this. They’ve accepted it.

It’s late afternoon. They’re sprawled on the couch. Their kisses are slow and gentle.

This is the closest they’ll ever get. They wonder if it will be enough.
