“You’re wasting time—”
“I want to be alone.”
“But…”
“Navi…” Link said giving her a glare.
“Hyrule is depending on you.”
With an irritated growl, Link removed his cap and ran a hand through his hair, “Hyrule can wait.”
“You’ve awakened the Sage of Forest, Sage of Fire… we know where to go next, can’t we just—”
“Navi!” the Hylian barked, his eyes darkening, “I want to be alone.”
It took the blue fairy a moment to realise what he meant.
“Oh…” she murmured, “I’m sorry. I didn’t realise I was pushing you so hard. Will you camp here for the night? I’ll return in the morning.”
“Yeah, I’ll see you here,” he replied with a nod and then looked at his guardian with a small smile, “And Navi… I’m not angry at you, okay? It’s not your fault.”
“Well, it’s not yours either… remember that.”
Emptying his tunic’s pockets of his equipment, he looked up as the small ball of blue light seemed to float away in the wind, “…Thank you, Navi.”
He was sitting on the island of Lake Hylia, his belongings arranged neatly on the grass as he leaned against the tree. He closed his eyes with a sigh, running a hand over his face. It had been a while now, but he still wasn’t used to the fact that he had lost seven years of his life. He looked different, felt different, sounded different… after a while, he had stopped looking for the familiarty in life that he had desperately sought in the first few weeks of regaining consciousness, but it still disturbed him when he dwelled on it for too long.
He opened his eyes and flinched slightly as he saw a figure standing in front of him. It took him a moment in the darkness of the night, but he finally recognised them.
“…Sheik.”
“Good evening, Hero.”
“Please don’t call me that,” he said quietly, looking at the ground.
“You have no choice but to embrace your destiny,” the masked man spoke as he sat on the ground beside Link.
“I have, haven’t I?” Link asked with a frown, “There’s been blood spilled for a reason I sometimes struggle to find myself…”
“Isn’t the destruction of Ganondorf a just enough reason?”
With a sigh, Link shook his head, “I don’t like killing people.”
“You’re killing monsters.”
“There’s hardly a difference,” the blonde boy replied, “They still cry in pain, they still fight for their lives, they still die.”
The other man chuckled.
“I don’t see the humour in it,” Link said darkly.
With a grin, Sheik tilted his head, “You may have grown physically, but you are still naïve.”
“Well given that I was unconscious for seven years, I’m not surprised.”
“Do you still feel like a ten year old?” the Sheikah asked.
Link sighed, “No. I don’t feel like an adult either, though. I’m just lost in the middle.”
“You don’t need to be lost. You have people that will support you. You’ve already awakened two of the sages, and they are people who would put their lives on the line for you. Even if you don’t realise it, Link, you are loved.”
With an irritated growl, he looked away again, “I was never loved. Not as a Kokiri and not as a Hylian.”
“Saria loved you.”
Azure eyes widened but instead of questioning it, Link merely shook his head, “It didn’t seem to make a difference when the rest of the Kokiri hated me.”
“That’s because you were different.”
“I’m always different!” Link spat, “Look at me!”
He motioned at his adult-sized Kokori clothing, “I’m not a Kokiri, but I’m not quite a Hylian, am I? I’m not a child, but I’m not an adult. I’m nothing. I’m lost.”
“Link…”
Lifting a hand to his face, he buried his fingers in his hair, wiping the tear forming in the corner of his eye, “Nothing.”
“That’s not true,” Sheik whispered fiercely, “You are Link, the Hero of Time. The one destined to bring Hyrule out of the darkness, the one who will strike down the King of Evil, you are the one we all trust—”
“The one you all depend on, rather,” Link cut in.
Grabbing the Hylian by the shoulders, Sheik glared at him, “You are the one we serve. The one we will protect. You are the one I would die for.”
“But you… the sages, isn’t it? I’ve only awakened two of you… and regardless, the sages stay in their Chamber and wait for me to awaken the rest. They’re not really physically there. They’re just a dream.”
“And me?” the Sheikah pressed, “Am I a mere dream as well?”
“You…” Link began and closed his eyes, “You disappear as soon as your work is done. I learn a song and you’re gone. You’re never there long enough.”
“I’m here now.”
“Why?”
The man’s gaze softened, “Because I need to be.”
“Why?”
“Because…”
With a small smile, Link tilted his head, “Because I want you to be? Maybe I’m dreaming this as well.”
“I refuse,” the tanned man whispered, “To be nothing but a dream. I’m real, Link. And I’m here.”
“Prove it.”
Leaning forward, Sheik pressed his lips against Link’s, not removing his mask.
“What—”
“Shh,” he murmured against the other’s mouth, “Just relax, okay?”
“Relax?” Link asked, “We’re not supposed to be doing this, we’re both—”
Sheik pulled away, “Do you want me to stop”
He moved forward, “No, but… why did you do it?”
“I…” there was a short silence and the man sighed, “You just need to know that there are people that care about you, Link. I’m one of them.”
With some hesitation, Link moved forward and placed a gauntleted hand on the other man’s shoulder, “If you’re going to kiss me, Sheik…”
The Sheikah stiffened as a finger hooked over his mask, pulling it down to reveal his nose and mouth.
“…At least do it properly,” he finished, placing a chaste kiss against the other man’s lips.
“Link…” Sheik murmured and pulled the Hylian into his arms, kissing down the neck until he met with the collar of a white undershirt.
The Hylian shuddered and groaned quietly as he was bitten through the material of the shirt, gripping tightly onto the rough material of the Sheikah’s clothing.
“Ah, more…” he urged, his breath coming as small gasps as Sheik’s hands slid over his tunic.
They slid down to lie on the grass and Link was vaguely aware of the hardness pressing against him as Sheik leaned over him. Lips met again and he parted his lips as they were licked at, allowing their tongues to meet in a fusion of taste and touch. His breath hitched as he felt a pair of hands undoing his belt and he arched slightly, gasping as he felt them slide under his tunic.
“Sheik…”
The other man looked up, concern clear in his eyes, “Am I moving too fast?”
Link gave him a small grin, “No… I want more.”
A hand closed around his groin and Link exhaled slowly, trying to remain relatively quiet as he was stroked. It didn’t take long for the feather-light touches to become unbearable and Link cried out, thrusting against Sheik’s body, urging him on with quiet whimpers.
“More?” the other man grinned as he pulled down Link’s tights as the Hylian kicked his boots off, helping the Sheikah undress him completely before kneeling in front of the crimson-eyed man and pulling at the armoured clothing until they were both naked, aroused and shivering as their bodies burned with desire in the cold midnight breeze.
“Link,” Sheik murmured, running his hand down the warmth of the other man’s body.
Neither of them paid much attention to how it happened, it just did. They moved on instinct, desire and intuition to find out what to do, what the other liked and how to give it to them. They gasped and groaned, rocking and bucking, Link letting out a low keen as he felt the pleasure increase to breaking point.
“Ah, Sheik, I can’t—”
Their lips met in a clumsy manner and they moaned into each other’s mouths as they released together, lying on the grass as they regained their breaths.
“Many people adore you, Link…” Sheik whispered as he closed his eyes, “But you should know that no one will ever be capable of caring for you as much as I do.”
With a tired smile, the Hylian reached out and touched the other man’s arm, “I think I prefer it that way.”
