If he tried hard enough, Ishida could have passed the first time off as a joke. If he had to, he could even think of it as a mistake. But then it happened more, and it became clear that it was all deliberate. It wasn’t a joke, not a mistake, not an accident. It was a decision. An action that had been silently agreed upon. It was something he desired… that he couldn’t have enough of and craved when it was denied from him.
It felt good. In fact, it felt wonderful. It made him feel important, confident, alive. But through it all, he could also feel the pain, the doubt and the paranoia.
Paranoia. How he hated the word. The feeling. It made him feel unsure, unsettled… and very afraid. There had been no promises, no assurances… no words at all, in fact.
It was just a kiss, after all.
But now it had become many kisses, and the Quincy didn’t quite know what else it had become, but he knew that something had changed.
“Stop,” he whispered against the warmth of another mouth and pulled away, trying not to think of how he regretted doing so.
“What’s wrong?”
“What is this?” Ishida asked with a frown.
Lips pressed against his jaw in a gentle and barely there touch; “It’s a kiss, isn’t it?”
“Why is it a kiss? Why are we kissing?”
Silence and then a shrug, “Because we want to?”
“But why do we want to—?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
A hand stroked his head and he struggled against the pleasant and calming motion.
“Do you like me?” he asked, his expression hardening to mask his fear and his hope.
There was a short pause. Then, “Yes. You are my friend, you know. Of course I like you.”
“I mean… more than a friend. Do you kiss your other friends like this?”
“No,” their lips met, “And I’d rather not. I guess you’re special.”
“What makes me so special?”
His cheek was stroked and he felt light-headed as he was smiled at, “Don’t ask me that. You just are.”
“But—”
“Do you think we kiss too much?”
Ishida looked flustered; “No… but… well, I still don’t know why we do it.”
“Do you really want me to say it that badly?”
The dark-haired boy frowned and only then noticed they had their arms around each other’s waists.
“I want the truth.”
A row of perfectly straight, white teeth were revealed in a grin. Ishida’s boy tensed as he felt the arms around him tighten, but then relaxed into the embrace, “Do I really need to say it? I like you, Ishida Uryuu.”
“No, you don’t, but…” he couldn’t help but feel giddy as he let the words sink in and repeat themselves in his mind.
A chuckle, “You still like hearing them anyway? Would you say them back to me, then?”
They kissed and the Quincy noticed something was missing. The paranoia. The fear and uncertainty. It was gone, and had been replaced by… a promise. Security.
Closing his eyes and leaning into their embrace, Ishida gave a faint smile, “I like you too, Kurosaki.”

Date: 2006-06-06 01:34 pm (UTC)It figures that Ichigo won't say anything at all (so like a man) and Ishida would feel insecure, but a nice cosy hug and kiss will make every aaaaaall better! ^__^
