It was a nice blue dress with a simple flower pattern on it. The material looked comfortable – and it probably felt comfortable too. He wouldn’t have known, but he was pretty sure of it. It was Rukia’s favourite dress; she wore it out everywhere and yet, it looked good no matter what. Due to the cold weather, she had thick stockings underneath and a jacket over it, but it was still that dress, and he still liked it.

Not that he’d let it show, of course. He trudged after her as she giggled and spoke to him in that fake cutesy voice that she used when the town wasn’t under threat. The same voice she used on Asano, and all those other idiots at school who didn’t know half a thing about who she really was. He scowled more than usual, to have her turn around and shake her finger at him, still speaking in that cutesy voice, “Lighten up, Kurosaki-kun~! If you frown all the time like that, your face will start to hurt!”

He only scowled harder and folded his arms, walking closer to growl, “Just do what you came here to do and we can leave.”

“To buy Ishida-kun’s present?” she asked with a small smile and a glance at him, “I should buy him something really nice, because he made this dress for me, and I absolutely love it! He’s really such a nice person, Kurosaki-kun, I just don’t understand why you don’t get along with him!”

“The guy’s a loser, why the fuck would I want to?” he snapped in response, and received a jab in the side.

“Mind your language, Kurosaki-kun! You shouldn’t swear like that!” she scolded with a cheerful expression and he chose to look away, his scowl softening into a small frown.

“Why does he matter that much to you?” he asked, “…He didn’t even care when you were taken to Soul Society to be executed. Just went there for his own reasons—”

“But he helped, didn’t he?” she asked, her voice lacking the playful edge this time, “He’s the kind of guy that says one thing and means another, isn’t he? So…”

“He’s still a selfish bastard in my books,” he muttered, his tone telling her that he didn’t want to discuss it any further.

“Well,” she said matter-of-factly, shrugging her shoulders, “I’m still going to buy him a nice big present, because even if you want to be a grump about it, I still think he’s nice.”

Throwing his arms up in the air in defeat, he made a sound of irritation and turned around, “Look, you do whatever the hell you want, okay? I’m not Christmas shopping with you. Buy Ishida’s fucking present on your own.”

He walked off before she had the chance to respond. Without looking back, he headed for the exit of the shopping center and pulled his jacket and scarf tighter around himself. The wind was cold outside, but there was no snow as the pathway was covered by a part of the shopping center. Walking in the direction of the park, he growled under his breath as he trudged through the layer of snow that covered the ground as he left the shelter of the shopping center. He was glaring at the snow beneath his feet when he bumped into someone. Taking a step back, he saw it was none other than Ishida himself. The Quincy adjusted his glasses and opened his mouth to say something, but he beat him to it.

“What the fuck do you want?”

Ishida blinked and then raised an eyebrow, “Aren’t you meant to be with Kuchiki-san?”

“What would you know?” he snapped, scowling at the other boy.

Ishida didn’t look the least bit fazed by the redhead’s outburst, “She was telling me about going Christmas shopping with you before, when we were at school. It sounded like she was really looking forward to it, did you stand her up, Kurosaki? It must boost your ego to know that you can break a girl’s heart like that—”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” he muttered, pushing past the boy and continuing to walk, “Go to Hell, Ishida.”

“Merry Christmas to you too,” he heard from behind him, but he ignored it. He ignored everything as he walked through the park. There weren’t any children on the swings because it was too cold for them, so he nudged one with his knee to shake the snow off and sat down after wiping it with his glove for good measure.

Stupid Ishida. Did she really talk to him that much? She actually said she was looking forward to Christmas shopping with him? …And didn’t being stood up mean they were on a date…?

“Hey grumpy,” a familiar voice said and he turned a little to find her smiling at him. He did a re-take, unsure of how to take the expression of her face. It wasn’t the devious kind of grin that she usually gave him moments before doing something that would embarrass him – it was a genuine one. Somehow, it made him feel extremely guilty.

“Hey… umm, about before… I’m sorry I yelled at you, I—” he began, but stopped when a gloved hand was placed over his mouth.

“Don’t worry,” she smiled at him in that genuine way that made him feel like blushing, “It’s just natural to feel jealous like that.”

His eyes widened and had her hand not been over his mouth, he would have opened it to argue, but as he couldn’t, he remained silent. His cheeks turned a faint pink and she giggled, wrapping an arm around him to give him a tight hug, “I like you better than Ishida anyway.”

Clearing his throat once she had removed her hand, he looked at her and gave her a small smile, getting off the swing and indicating that she sit on it instead.

“What is this?”

“You’ll see,” he murmured, taking hold of the chains on either side and pulling gently, “Sorry if any snow falls on you.”

Looking over her shoulder, she winked, “That’s okay. Ishida made me this beanie to keep my head warm anyway.”

Grinning in response, he gave her back a playful shove making the swing move forward. She gasped in delight as it moved backwards again and kicked her legs in the air as he pushed again, harder this time to send her swinging higher. She looked down behind her to see him waiting for the swing to come back down. Closing her eyes and smiling as she felt his hands against her lower back as she was pushed again, she nodded to herself. She definitely needed to repay Ishida. If not for the clothes he had made for her, then at least for telling her what he was too shy to say.

*grumbles* ..LJ ate my previous comment. D: Nevertheless, it's quite fresh in my mind! xD

*grins so widely that her mouth hurts so much* :'D!!!!

You did well! Everything came together nicely, Ishida's appearance was timely (and oh so necessary), and Ichigo was especially in character (not that Rukia and Ishida weren't in character *giggles*)...! And I LOVE the last scene! It makes me VERY happy~~ ♥

....Much love to YOU! Have a great New Year's! ♥!!
