Title: Rising ~ Prologue
Status: Complete
Author:
kiyala
Word Count: total c. 28 000
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Characters/Pairing: Lots of people, but mainly Daryan Crescend / Klavier Gavin
Rating: NC-17 overall
Warnings: Um, the length? D: Also, gay princes and knights.
Disclaimer: CAPCOM own Ace Attorney
Notes: Ahahaha. This was a kink meme request which proceeded to spin out of control. I watched on with a mix of horror and amusement and it became a lot longer than I'd ever intended for it to be.
I found it a little difficult to keep Klavier and Daryan in character when I couldn't use their typical speech patterns (like ja, ain't etc.) but hopefully I've still managed to keep them in character.
Seven years have passed since the fall of the Phoenix, at the hands of the exalted King Kristoph.
The Phoenix, a mythical being whose purpose it is to bring peace and justice to the world, is portrayed in folk lore to be a benign creature who would bring no harm to others. King Kristoph had as many of these records burned as possible, leaving only those at the village of Kurain, home to the most devout followers of the Phoenix.
It is said that this mystical creature had once taken the form of a man to roam the earth and that those who live in Kurain had met and befriended this man before his true powers were revealed. He then arrived at the king’s court, seeking to spread the same peace and justice as he had everywhere else in the land. King Kristoph observed the way his court warmed up to the man with ease, deeming him a direct threat to his own position of power. Unbeknownst to the rest of his court, King Kristoph sought to murder the man, dispatching a unit of thirty knights to complete the job.
The next day, they were found dead outside the castle walls, with no traces of the Phoenix himself. King Kristoph waited, searching for any signs that the Phoenix was still alive. When he found none, he was satisfied that his goal had been achieved. He gave to the citizens of his kingdom not the truth, but his own twisted version of it. He portrayed the Phoenix as an evil man who had used his charm to worm his way into the court and destroy it from the inside out. He claimed that the Phoenix was the one who had attacked the thirty knights, and once they had been killed, it was King Kristoph who had ventured out and slew the man with his own hands.
Confused by the way this announcement contradicted everything the citizens thought of the Phoenix, the kingdom was thrown into chaos until finally the king’s brother, Prince Klavier, calmed them down and reassured them that his brother surely had the best interests of his kingdom in mind. Surely, his elder brother would only resort to killing someone if it was strictly necessary to uphold the peace and safety of his kingdom.
Their fears assuaged, the King’s citizens slowly began to worship him as a hero. King Kristoph had complete authority over his people and never cared to tell his younger brother the truth of what happened to the Phoenix.
Now, seven years later, a vision comes in the middle of the night, not to King Kristoph who is secure in his power, but to his younger brother, Prince Klavier.
