hazysea to cheer her up a while back. Goes with this adorable picture of JGL ♥There are lots of things Eames can measure their relationship by. The first time they’d fucked, the first time they told each other things about their pasts, the first time they’d found themselves in a hostile situation and known without a doubt that they had each other’s back. But his favourite is the first time he’d really seen Arthur smile. It had happened when they’d both been younger. After this one job in the middle of monsoon season in Delhi, Cobb had promised the base of operations for their next job would be a beach house. To Eames’ surprise, he’d actually kept the promise. Eames dressed down to suit their location; everybody had. Even Arthur, in his own strange way. While dressing down meant cargos and a t-shirt to everybody else, Arthur had decided it meant a sleeveless sweater vest and jeans. He hadn’t bothered slicking his hair back this time around, and Eames was only glad that he was extremely smitten with Arthur because otherwise, the hair itself would have done it. To Eames’ (and the rest of the team’s) great pleasure, Arthur was also much more relaxed here. The job was challenging—Cobb wouldn’t have taken it otherwise—but manageable. It was one afternoon before the job actually took place and there was no work to do while Cobb was out arranging how they would gain access to their mark. Eames had suggested going out for a walk on the beach and Arthur had enthusiastically agreed, except when they’d gotten outside, Arthur had pulled Eames into a kiss. Eames could tell then and there that they wouldn’t make it to the beach. He didn’t mind. He’d kissed Arthur back, and they’d decided to sit where they were, under the supporting beams of the beach house. The sand wasn’t as soft or dry as the beach but hey, Arthur had said, sand was sand. So Eames sat and Arthur sat beside him, nearly on top of him, and pushed him to the ground for another kiss. "You’re insatiable," Eames had murmured, earning a soft huff of amusement from Arthur. "Pot, meet kettle." They kissed again, slower this time, tongues sliding against each other, before Arthur pulled away. Eames could feel it then; he was going to say something very stupid and ruin this all. He didn’t meet Arthur’s eyes, batting ineffectually at the sand all over Arthur’s jeans instead. It slipped out anyway, easy as a breath. "I’m utterly mad about you, you know." And Arthur hadn’t withdrawn. He’d smiled, bright and beautiful, all for Eames. And he’d reached over, running his fingers through Eames’ hair and said, "Yeah." For weeks, months after, Eames had tried to find out every single way to get Arthur to smile at him like that again. He’d tried to find out what Arthur meant by the simple yeah. And he knows, now. He knows that to see Arthur smile, all he has to do is smile first. And the yeah had meant me too. |
